The Legionaries of Christ is a religious congregation of priests and students for the priesthood who aspire to make Jesus Christ the model of their lives and to extend His Kingdom by striving for holiness and by means of their apostolic activity.
Chicago Legionaries of Christ
Fr. Jason is the second of Hung and Mythi Huynh’s three children. He attended Peachtree Elementary school and Pinecrest Academy in Atlanta, GA before joining the Legion of Christ as an Apostolic in Center Harbor, NH. He entered the novitiate in 1999 and made his first profession of vows in 2001 in Monterrey, Mexico. After studying classical humanities for a year in Salamanca, Spain he earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2004, his master’s in philosophy in 2009 and his bachelor’s degree in theology in 2012 at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. Between his philosophical and theological studies Fr. Jason spent three years of internship as a dean of students at the Apostolic School in New Hampshire. Since his priestly ordination in December 2012 he has served as vice-rector and then dean of students at Sacred Heart Apostolic School in Indiana. He is currently the chaplain for Everest Academy, Lemont.
Fr. Joshua was born in Naples, Italy, and grew up in Virginia – the oldest of six children. He joined the novitiate of the Legion of Christ in 1996 and was ordained a priest in 2009. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology and a Licentiate in Philosophy from Regina Apostolorum in Rome. As a priest, he has served in California as vocation director for the Legion of Christ, Regnum Christi chaplain, school chaplain, and retreat center director. He is currently based in Chicago and is chaplain for Regnum Christi in the Heartland (Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri).
Father Brett hails from Southern California. A convert from Buddhism, he was ordained a priest in December, 2016.
Fr. Wren was born on January 8, 1962 in Cottonwood, Idaho, in the midst of a very simple, fervent, pre-Vatican II catholic community. After finishing high school he went to Santa Fe, N.M., where he received a Bachelor’s Degree of Liberal Arts in the Great Books program at St. John’s College. He received his priestly vocation at the age of 23, joined the Legion of Christ at the insistence of Jesuit priest who was a good friend, and began his novitiate in the fall of 1985 in Cheshire, CT. He was sent to Salamanca, Spain for his second year of Novitiate, and there also completed two years of classical humanities studies. The rest of his priestly training was spent between years of philosophy and theology in Rome at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum, and apostolic internship in Cheshire, Connecticut, Greenville, Rhode Island, and at the General Direction in Rome. He was ordained on January 3, 1996, and began his priestly ministry as Instructor of Novices in a French-speaking novitiate on the border between Ontario and Quebec, Canada. He was transferred to the Apostolic School in France in 1999, where he practiced his priestly ministry as Rector of the School and Superior of Community until 2014, when he received his new assignment in Chicago, as Chaplain of the Lumen Institute and auxiliary to the Regnum Christi Men’s section. Fr. Wren is the third of 10 children, the proud uncle of 55 nieces and nephews, and very happy to be a member of the vibrant and often hilarious Chicago LC community.
Fr. Michael Moriarty, L.C., was born in Atlantic, Iowa on August 18, 1980 and grew up in the town of Lawrence, Kansas. In 1999 he graduated from Sancta Maria in Lawrence. He entered the Legionaries of Christ as a novice on September 15th of 1999 in Cheshire, Connecticut. After one year in Cheshire he went to Salamanca, Spain where he made his first profession of vows and studied classical humanities studies. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at Our Lady of Thornwood in and spent three years of internship helping provide spiritual formation for businessmen in New York City. He then moved to Rome where he made his perpetual profession of vows and obtained a Licentiate degree in philosophy and a bachelor’s degree in theology from Regina Apostolorum Pontifical College. He currently resides in Chicago, Illinois where he serves as chaplain of East Lake Academy, auxiliary chaplain for the Lumen Institute, and director of fundraising for Regnum Christi in the Midwest. He also preaches regularly at Immaculate Conception Parish in Highland Park, IL.
Fr. Michael is from Ohio and is the second of 10 children. In 1999 he entered the Legion’s novitiate in Cheshire, CT. After taking his first vows he studied humanities for two years in Salamanca, Spain. In Rome he completed a master’s degree in philosophy from the Legion’s Pontifical Athenaeum graduating Summa cum Laude. For three years he was part of the team of formators at the Immaculate Conception Apostolic School in Colfax, CA. On returning to Rome to continue his studies, he worked for two years in the secretariat of the Legion of Christ. While completing his theology degree he worked for two years on the team of seminarian formators of the Legion’s headquarters in Rome. He was ordained a priest with his older brother in December of 2011. Currently he works in Chicago as vocation director and chaplain to the Regnum Christi apostolate Mission Youth.
